2006 Welcome LetterMay 30, 2006 What do you get when you mix 17 varsity letter winners, 6 All-Liberty designations, 2 All-County awards, and one All-South Jersey award? In 2005, a South Jersey Group III Championship. In 2006? Nothing. Yet. Welcome to Moorestown Distance Running, circa 2006. This year’s cross country team is coming off one of its best seasons ever, culminating with a Sectional Championship and a visit to the Meet of Champions. But, while we will always carry the experiences of last year with us, 2006 brings an entire new team confronted with entirely new challenges. Can we possibly expect to duplicate the performances of last year? Of course we can! As your coaches, we are convinced that, while last year’s team put Moorestown Distance Running on the map, this year’s team will surely make it a permanent fixture of the South Jersey running landscape. We just need to remember what made last year such a successful experience. It all started early in the summer, with guys pounding the pavement, accumulating miles. Daily captain’s practices, punctuated by a week in the mountains at camp, built strong, fit runners. It spilled into fall, as parents kicked in, helping with fundraising and making sure each member of the team had everything they needed. New uniforms arrived. Goals were set, deepening the focus and determination as racing season arrived. Pasta parties sprang up, and members of the team realized they enjoyed hanging out with each other. We helped each other out, fired acorns at each other, and pushed each other to our bests. Victories mounted, confidence soared. The rest, as they say, is history. Can we do it again? 2005 provides a strong example, illustrating all we need to know. And we, your coaches, are doing our best to make sure we follow it. In this handbook, you will find everything you want to know about the season – from all the latest Bickel inspired knowledge on why we run to our summer/fall workout calendar. Notice, too, a new page on fundraising and a Uniform Program designed to put clothes on your back forever. Please take a look. We are working hard to make sure this year’s XC experience is the best it can be for everyone. So, what do you get when you mix nearly fifty boys, two crazy coaches, a summer of hard running, a team dedicated to running “like a pack”, supportive parents, and a little bit of luck? In 2006? A South Jersey Group III Championship. Let’s make it happen, Coach Bickel & Coach Eagles |
