2009 Weekly Update - Oct. 19, 2009
This Past Week
On a misty, cool, mud-filled day, we wrapped our season finishing 6th in the State Group 3 Championships, a result to feel pride in. We were the 6th fastest team in all of South Jersey across all of the races yesterday.
Weintraub, Greenwood and Horten led the team, as they have all season. Sticking together and gaining strength from each other. They finished with 4 seconds of each other, and even though the conditions were quite slow yesterday with the mud, Greenwood and Horten improved on their times from Shore Coaches in early October.
Inglis, Rothenberger and Ems were our second tight pack. Inglis edged out a charging Rothenberger at the end, and Ems was only 5 seconds back from them. While Inglis fell right on the starting line (did I mention the mud?), Shoeless Joel Robinson did the circuit in only one shoe. In his previous two efforts where he has lost his shoe, he set PR's, but not on this day...
At the end of the season, I like to reflect on whether we were true to our guiding principles - Work, Learn, Team and Fun. So let's take a look:
Work: As reported by Voomaxer, the team has done over 18,000 miles since June 1 (the real start of XC season).
Learn: There were a thousand small lessons. I'm sure Sam will be more cautious about beach races, Evan and Gavin will stretch their ITBands religiously from now on. Anthony figured out how to stick, Paul learned that he is pretty darned good, Brandon learned to temper his training to help his team at the end of the season. Although Joel still has not learned how to tie a shoelace.
Team: The guys on this team have shown so much support for each other. If someone is down, others will help pick him up. Whether in races, or in life.
Fun: A season full of the best Psyche parties, a mannequin named Luke, and a stop at McDonald's on the way home after the meet yesterday prove that this team has fun. Where else could you find Inglis eating a whole Entenmanns cake, or Tyler taking the challenge of after gorging himself he could run sub 5:30 (he actually ran 5:11) when we got back to the track.
These Coming Weeks
End of Season Banquet - Monday, Nov. 16 - 6:00PM. Everyone should come to this, along with parents. We have a great group of parent volunteers led by Robin Rothman who are going to host this fun evening. The cost is $12 - but well worth it. Get your forms to signup for this from the website - http://www.moorestownxc.org/2009/images/BanquetForm.pdf.
Turkey Trot - Thanksgiving Morning. Judy Greenwood is leading this effort, which is the way we raise money for the team. All runners and parents should participate in this great community event if you can possibly make it. We need lots of volunteers that morning, as well as beforehand to help organize. The advertising for this will begin this coming week. There will be a banner on Main Street, we will be sending emails, we will be sending out 400 flyers to previous households who have run in the Turkey Trot in past years. The website is up and running and we are taking registrations online. So help us get the word out!
End of Season Exit Interviews - Eagles will be conducting end of season exit interviews this coming week in his room after school. Please sign up. We would like to get your input on how the season went, and help make plans for the future. I will be sending out some notes for winter training plans in the next week. |
